Agored Cymru L5 Diploma in Practitioner Reflexology

The qualification comprises five holistic and competency based units registered and regulated by QW (Qualifications Wales):

HK24CY008 - Anatomy, Physiology & Pathology for Reflexology

What makes the L5 Diploma in Practitioner Reflexology completely different to any other regulated/formal/nationally recognised qualification is that the subjects taught are all made relevant to reflexology!   That may sound obvious, but many other Diplomas, University courses etc., have generic courses which results in the learners often struggling to understand how the learned information translates to what they are doing on the feet/hands/ears etc.

For Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology for Reflexology the assessments will be relevant to becoming a highly knowledgeable reflexology practitioner, who will be able to individualise a treatment with understanding of how the body works, why we become ill and how we get better too. You will be taught treatment protocols set against medically pre-determined symptoms of pathologies, which means you will understand a persons diagnosis and use your reflexology diagnostic skills to peform an appropriate - for that person - treatment. The assessments will include a WorkBook/Pathology Directory and a Report

HK24CY007 - Business Skills for Reflexology Practice

The unit that covers the business aspect is also specific to setting up and beginning a new working life as a reflexologist.   When other qualifications cover business as a general/generic topic, the learner misses the opportunity to focus on what they will need on a practical level, as the majority of newly qualified reflexologists are self-employed and most often they are setting up a home working business.   These specific needs will be a very small part of an overall business module, but are a very large part of the L5 Diploma Business unit, resulting in well prepared Practitioners who understand the challenges they may face as well as the huge rewards.  Assessment includes a detailed plan of all areas that may influence setting up a new business as a reflexology practitioner as well as areas for paid employment (including within the NHS).

HK25CY010 - Reflexology Skills in Practice

There are three units within the qualification that are reflexology based which means that the prime focus is on the practical 'hands on' knowledge you will need.   In this first unit you will learn a firm foundation of all that is required in order to then build on the basic skills of a treatment routine.   All 3 units are at Level 5, so you will immediately be learning to utilise critical faculties to analyse, to interpret, to evaluate etc.   You will be highly supervised and will be observed undertaking four treatments under examination conditions on a study client.  There will be a further 3 Supervised treatments for Specific Conditions (maternity care / palliative care / hand and/or micro reflection reflexology).  All Centralia Centres are determined that their learners have the best possible start as Practitioners and are fully equipped to meet the needs of their clients when they graduate without having to wait to do (and pay for) Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

HK25CY009 - Incremental Development of Applied Reflexology Skills in Practice

As the unit title suggests, you will build on your knowledge and begin treatments on study clients which will develop in depth and complexity as your skills and learning deepen.  You will be learning to integrate practical, theoretical and technological understanding to find ways forward in complex and broadly defined contexts.   It is important to be able to apply critical evaluation to treatment findings, but also to be able to apply the same to yourself as a learner which is why a Personal Development Plan is also a part of treating study clients.   You will be introduced to several different techniques to ensure that you will always be able to individualise your treatments to the needs of your clients.

HK25CY011 - Providing Reflexology for Specific Conditions

Stress is recognised as a contributor to many allopathic conditions and it was with this in mind, that Centralia Centres developed a treatment protocol specific to the known systems that are most affected by stress responses.  Neuro-Endo-Psycho-Immuno-Pody (NEPIP) explores the psychology of stress and the way it often then results in a susceptability to illness because of a compromised immune system.  Giving a NEPIP treatment will be Supervised within class and multiple areas related to pre, post and maternity care and palliative care will also be assessed as part of the Client Studies.

Qualification Front Page

  • The units for the Level 5 Diploma in Practitioner Reflexology were originally written by Sue Alma Evans, Director of Inspira Academy of Reflexology in association with the Agored Cymru Curriculum Development Manager and was then put before a health board prior to validation
  • Sue Alma Evans also originally wrote the Base Guidance Notes and all assessment and evidence content, but Centralia Centres are a co-operative and all learning contained within the qualification is developed with full input from Centralia Centres and then externally verified for educational and academic suitability by the Awarding Organisation
  • The copyright of the units is owned by Agored Cymru and the copyright of the course content/syllabus and assessments are owned by Centralia
  • NEPIP is also copyrighted and Trade marked to Centralia.
  • The units may be accessed by other Reflexology Training Centres outside Wales (these are the Centralia Partner Centres) as long as the learners are registered with an Agored Cymru Approved Centre in Wales i.e. Centralia, and as an Approved/Recognised Centre, Centralia meets all Agored Cymru licence requirements for assessment, verification and standardisation
  • The qualification has been designed to ensure that the learning is progressive, with a starting point based against the Core Curriculum for Reflexology and NOS (CNH1;CNh2, CNH11 - Https://tools.skilssfor health.org.uk/competence_search), the minimum requirement for reflexology practice
  • The qualification encompasses advanced practical and conceptual knowledge with a depth of understanding of reflexology in applied contexts
  • It has been designed to extend the learners' range and accountability in reflexology practice, and to develop progression opportunities in a clinical/prefessional environment
  • The learners will be able to adapt reflexology treatments and techniques to the needs of individuals and apply specifically individualised treatment against medically predetermined symptoms of pathologies
  • Centralia work with candidates who are studying at HE1 level.
  • In Wales, the new RQF is only one part of a wider credit based framework that has been available since devolution in Wales (1999).
  • One of the other 'pillars' is for credit based curriculum that underpins or augments regulated qualifications such as HEI degrees, and qualifications on the RQF and NQF.
